Cold Case Arrest: Woman Charged in 2012 Murder Following DNA Breakthrough in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, FL – The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Cold Case Homicide Unit announced the arrest of Julie Krinsky, 53, in connection with the 2012 murder of Joseph Godcharles.

Krinsky was taken into custody Thursday morning in Beverly Hills, FL, where she currently resides. She faces charges of second-degree murder with a weapon.

Joseph Godcharles, 48, was found stabbed to death in his Key Royal Villas apartment off Immokalee Road on August 1, 2012. Godcharles had entered his gated community the previous evening, and his son discovered the condo unsecured the next morning. Deputies found Godcharles deceased in the master bedroom with multiple stab wounds. There were no signs of forced entry, leading investigators to believe he likely knew his killer.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk praised the investigation, highlighting years of dedicated work by CCSO detectives and forensic staff in collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office. “This arrest is the direct result of years of relentless work,” Sheriff Rambosk said.

State Attorney Amira Fox emphasized the importance of the interagency partnership. “This arrest once again demonstrates the tremendous partnership between the State Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners,” she said, commending the commitment to solving cold cases.

Advances in DNA technology were key to identifying Krinsky as the person responsible. Investigators say Krinsky and Godcharles had been longtime friends and had also been in a romantic relationship.

Krinsky was arrested as she left her home for work and is currently held in the Citrus County Jail awaiting extradition to Collier County to face trial.

Sheriff Rambosk noted, “We never give up on these investigations. Our detectives consistently review them in hopes that a new lead or an advancement in technology will be the investigative element needed to make an arrest.”

This arrest brings resolution to a case that remained unsolved for more than a decade, providing closure for Godcharles’ family and friends.
