Jacksonville Officers Shoot Armed Domestic Violence Suspect After Woman and Infant Escape Home

ACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two Jacksonville officers shot an armed domestic violence suspect Thursday night after authorities said he threatened to kill a woman, held her and a 9-month-old child against their will, and later pointed a handgun at officers in a wooded area.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sheriff T.K. Waters and Chief Michael Paul provided details during a briefing about the officer-involved shooting, which occurred around 9:20 p.m. on May 14, 2026, at a home on Eberly Drive near St. Johns Bluff Road.

According to investigators, District 2 patrol officers initially responded around 11:50 a.m. to a report from a woman who said she had been battered by her partner. Authorities said the suspect had already left the residence before officers arrived.

Police said officers were in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant when the suspect returned to the home later that afternoon.

Investigators said the suspect then held the woman and her infant child inside the residence against their will for several hours.

At one point, the woman and child escaped into a nearby wooded area and called 911, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the suspect exited the residence and fired a rifle into the air.

Responding officers located the woman and child in the wooded area while the suspect allegedly continued making threats to shoot the woman and kill anyone who responded to the scene.

Investigators said the suspect later located the woman and officers in the woods and pointed a handgun at them, prompting Officers J. Jones and G. Comayagua to open fire.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Marcus Delay, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The sheriff’s office said the State Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. Once completed, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own internal review.

Authorities said this marks the 10th officer-involved shooting involving the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2026.
