Jacksonville Man Arrested in Motel Murder; Second Suspect Still Sought

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A Jacksonville man is behind bars and a second suspect remains at large following a fatal shooting at a motel on Golfair Boulevard last week.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, District 6 patrol officers responded on May 29 to a motel room on Golfair Boulevard after receiving a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 40-year-old Giavonathan Butler suffering from a gunshot wound. Butler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office Homicide Unit launched an immediate investigation and reviewed surveillance footage, interviewed witnesses, and processed evidence recovered from the motel room.

Investigators identified 25-year-old Alfred Jones III as one of the gunmen involved in the killing.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Jones on May 31. Later that same day, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team took him into custody and arrested him on a murder charge.

Detectives believe Jones did not act alone and continue searching for a second suspect involved in the shooting.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing.
