Jacksonville Fugitive Wanted for Assault on Law Enforcement Officer Arrested in U.S. Virgin Islands

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands — A Florida fugitive wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, was arrested on St. John after investigators linked him to a local business, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

50-year-old Robert Gary was taken into custody on June 2, 2026, in Cruz Bay, St. John, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Virgin Islands Police Department Special Response Team, and special agents with the Virgin Islands Department of Justice.

Gary was wanted in Jacksonville, Florida, on a failure-to-appear warrant stemming from charges that include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, resisting without violence, and several traffic-related offenses.

The arrest resulted from a collateral lead provided by the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in Jacksonville.

According to investigators, U.S. Marshals in St. Thomas developed information connecting a tattoo shop in Cruz Bay to an individual identified as Eric Gary, an alias associated with Robert Gary.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on June 2, investigators positively identified Gary walking near the U.S. Post Office in Cruz Bay and took him into custody without incident.

Gary is being held pending extradition proceedings to Florida.

The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort involving the U.S. Marshals Service, the Virgin Islands Police Department Special Response Team, and the Virgin Islands Department of Justice.
