ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office have made a second arrest in connection with a deadly workplace shooting that occurred at a construction site in the SilverLeaf community earlier this year.
According to the sheriff’s office, 23-year-old Armando Lopez Cobo has been charged with Accessory After the Fact to Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm.
The charge stems from the March 4 shooting at a construction site near the intersection of Crimson Leaf Drive and Johns Island Parkway.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found three construction workers suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, later identified as Austin Teems, 29, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, died at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries and later recovered.
Investigators determined the shooting occurred after an argument between coworkers escalated into a physical confrontation. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives allegedly showed 20-year-old Yovany Lopez Cobo pulling out a handgun and firing multiple shots after the confrontation, striking all three men. He was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with Second-Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder.
Authorities said Yovany Lopez Cobo and his passenger, Armando Lopez Cobo, fled the scene following the shooting. Deputies located the pair traveling westbound on State Road 206 and detained them approximately 30 minutes after the shooting. While Armando was not initially charged, detectives said additional investigative work and evidence review established probable cause to charge him with accessory after the fact.
Armando Lopez Cobo is being held at the St. Johns County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
