JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. – A routine traffic stop in Cottondale led to the arrest of a motorcyclist after deputies recovered more than 19 grams of methamphetamine that investigators say was discarded during the stop.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initiated a traffic stop after observing a traffic violation involving a motorcycle near the intersection of Sapp Road and U.S. Highway 90.
As the deputy activated the traffic stop, investigators said the driver threw a dark-colored object from the motorcycle.
Additional deputies responded to the scene, and a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 assisted in searching the area.
Investigators located the discarded item, which contained approximately 19.61 grams of methamphetamine packaged in multiple bags, along with a glass smoking pipe.
The driver was identified as Christopher Scott Laferte.
During the investigation, deputies also determined that Laferte did not possess the required license to legally operate a motorcycle.
Laferte was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motorcycle without the required license.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office also reminded residents that its Outreach Coordinators are available to connect individuals struggling with substance abuse or other needs to local resources.
The investigation remains ongoing.
