SOPCHOPPY, Fla. – Two people were found dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in what the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office is investigating as a double homicide.
Deputies began investigating at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 2 at a property in the 740 block of Otter Creek Road in Sopchoppy.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives determined that 58-year-old Rebecca Lynn Thomas and 49-year-old John William Luper III died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators also determined that after the killings, the victims’ bodies were transported from the crime scene and concealed in separate locations.
Authorities said a structure fire also occurred at the Otter Creek Road property.
While the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation, detectives currently believe the fire is a separate incident from the homicides.
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office said multiple investigative teams continue to process evidence, interview witnesses and pursue all available leads.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released information about a possible suspect or motive.
The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available without compromising the case.
