ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Two people were arrested on methamphetamine trafficking charges after St. Augustine police said officers discovered about 25 grams of crystal meth during a traffic stop.
35-year-old Donald Bennett Smith and 40-year-old Amanda Jean Wells of Elkton were arrested following the October 4th traffic stop, according to the St. Augustine Police Department.
Police said officers recognized Wells as the registered owner of the vehicle and knew that her driver’s license was suspended.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found three bags containing a combined total of approximately 25 grams of crystal methamphetamine, according to police. Officers also reported finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Smith and Wells were each charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were booked into the St. Johns County Jail at around 2:12 am on October 5th.
Wells was charged with Trafficking Amphetamines, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Equipment. Her bond was set at $77,000. She also has a history of arrests. She was arrested in September 25th for a Parole Violation. In 2022, she was charged with Cruelty Toward Child. During a court hearing for that case, she was charged with Contempt of Court.
Smith was charged with Trafficking Amphetamines and Possession of Drug Equipment. His bond was set at $85,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
