On December 4, Ocala police detectives arrested a husband and wife, Luis Omar Aquino Torres, 42, and Yecenia Ivette Vazquez Aquino, 48, in connection with a string of car burglaries, thefts, and credit card frauds in Southwest Ocala. The arrests followed a thorough investigation initiated on December 3, when five car burglaries were assigned to Detective Decker, all involving the same suspects and modus operandi.
The couple’s criminal activity began on November 28 when a victim reported a burglary after visiting Epic Theaters on SW College Road. Personal belongings, cash, a driver’s license, and debit cards were stolen. The suspects were later linked to over $2,000 in fraudulent purchases made with the stolen debit card, captured on surveillance footage at Walmart and the Paddock Mall. Another similar incident occurred the same day at Cracker Barrel, where a stolen debit card was used to make over $1,500 in fraudulent purchases.
Additional car burglaries occurred in the SW Ocala/S.R. 200 area, targeting locations such as Gaitway Plaza, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Hollywood 16 Theaters. Photos of the suspects were shared on the Ocala PD Facebook page, leading to a tip on December 4. A witness recognized the suspects from the post and reported seeing them at the 7-Eleven on SE Maricamp Road, where officers promptly apprehended the couple.
Detective Decker, Corporal Camacho, Officer Perico, and Officer Lucenilla were instrumental in the investigation. Authorities thanked the vigilant tipster for their role in solving the case, urging the public to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables visible to prevent similar incidents.
