On December 19, 2024, Robert David Gulledge, 59, of Jacksonville, pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to a federal agency. Gulledge faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
According to court documents, Gulledge created a fraudulent Form DD-214 military discharge document, which falsely detailed his service in the United States Marine Corps. The falsified document included several military positions that Gulledge never held and multiple awards he never received. Gulledge first submitted the false form in 2009 as part of his application for an Intelligence Analyst position on a government contract, a position he ultimately obtained. He continued to use the fraudulent document in 2017 and again in 2023 for two additional government contract job applications. Additionally, Gulledge submitted the false form in an attempt to appeal a denial of a Veterans Affairs disability claim.
The investigation was led by the U.S. Department of State – Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) Office of Special Investigations, the Department of Veterans Affairs – Office of Inspector General, and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly S. Milliron.
