On February 13, 2025, deputies from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting threats of self-harm and harm to others. Upon arrival, deputies found two individuals struggling over a handgun inside the residence.
The suspect, who had allegedly threatened family members, was holding the firearm in his left hand while the victim attempted to keep it forced down and away from her head. Corporal Justin Stout and Deputy Flint Miller intervened, seizing the suspect’s hands and arms to prevent him from firing.
As Cpl. Stout secured the suspect’s left hand, he gripped the barrel and slide of the gun to disable it. The suspect refused multiple commands to release the firearm and ultimately discharged a round, which struck the ground, rendering the gun inoperable.
Deputies successfully subdued the suspect and placed him in handcuffs without injuries to the victim or bystanders. Cpl. Stout sustained bruising on his palm from the muzzle blast. Authorities credit the quick actions of both deputies with preventing a potentially deadly situation.
