Child Dies After Being Struck by Two Vehicles While Chasing Dog in Daytona Beach

A child has died after being struck by two vehicles on North Halifax Avenue Wednesday night.

Daytona Beach Police Department officers responded to the 2900 block of N. Halifax Avenue at approximately 8:21 p.m. following a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a child pedestrian. Upon arrival, they found the child had sustained severe injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the child had exited their home to follow the family dog, which had escaped. While chasing the dog, the child entered the roadway and was struck by one vehicle and then a second.

The child was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. The Daytona Beach Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and has not released any further details at this time.
