Middleburg 14-Year-Old Arrested for Killing Parents in Domestic Shooting

MIDDLEBURG, FL – A 14-year-old boy is in custody after calling 911 and admitting to fatally shooting his parents inside their Middleburg home early Sunday morning.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in at approximately 7:15 a.m. on August 4, 2025. The caller, who identified himself as Trevor Lee, told dispatchers he had shot and killed his parents inside their residence on Silver Point in the Fleming Island area of Middleburg. He then told dispatchers he was waiting at a nearby church parking lot for deputies to arrive.

Deputies were immediately dispatched to both locations. At the Silver Point residence, responding deputies found 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith deceased inside the home. Both had sustained gunshot wounds. According to law enforcement, it was apparent both victims had been killed prior to the 911 call.

Deputies made contact with Trevor Lee outside a church just a short distance from the home and took him into custody without incident. A firearm was recovered, although authorities have not yet confirmed if it belonged to either of the victims.

Detectives spent much of Sunday processing the home and interviewing neighbors and family members. While a motive has not yet been confirmed, authorities said there were no prior calls for service or documented reports of domestic disturbances at the residence involving Trevor Lee.

Trevor Lee has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Clay County Juvenile Detention Center. Under Florida law, the decision to charge a juvenile as an adult will be made by the State Attorney’s Office in the coming days.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as an “isolated, domestic-related situation,” and assured the public there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512.
