TRENTON, Fla. – A proactive patrol by deputies in the City of Trenton led to the arrest of a convicted felon on multiple serious charges, including fentanyl trafficking and illegal firearm possession, authorities said.
On Monday, January 12, 2026, deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office identified 40-year-old Michael A. Hennessey driving despite having a suspended Florida driver’s license. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and took Hennessey into custody for Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.
Information developed during the stop prompted investigators to seek a search warrant for a camper in Trenton where Hennessey was known to reside. During the search, deputies discovered illegal narcotics, firearms, and ammunition. Investigators later confirmed Hennessey has prior felony convictions in Gilchrist County, leading deputies to obtain and execute an amended search warrant that resulted in the seizure of additional firearms and ammunition.
Hennessey was booked into the Gilchrist County Jail on charges including Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of Firearms by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Equipment.
Sheriff Bobby Schultz credited the arrest to proactive policing efforts. “This arrest is the direct result of proactive policing in the City of Trenton,” Schultz said. “Our deputies are out every day identifying criminal activity before it escalates and removing dangerous offenders from our community.”
The investigation remains part of the sheriff’s office’s ongoing effort to target drug trafficking and repeat offenders throughout Gilchrist County.
