NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Two men are behind bars after investigators say they used specialized tools to break into locked vehicles and steal credit cards, racking up more than $1,000 in fraudulent purchases.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Joshua Denson and 54-year-old Harold Jackson on burglary and larceny charges after deputies say they stole a wallet from a locked vehicle and used the victim’s credit cards to buy high-value items.
The investigation began January 6, 2026, when detectives were alerted to a suspicious transaction at a local Walmart. According to authorities, two masked men attempted to purchase expensive merchandise, including gaming consoles and Visa gift cards.
Detectives later determined the credit card used in the transaction belonged to a victim who had reported a vehicle burglary to the Fernandina Beach Police Department. The victim told police they had parked at the Egan’s Creek Greenway and locked their vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry, and the doors remained locked, but debit and credit cards were missing from a wallet stored inside the glove compartment.
Investigators identified the suspects’ vehicle and tracked it to Fort Clinch State Park on February 2. During surveillance, detectives observed Jackson allegedly attempting to unlock another vehicle using a long metal rod.
Both men were taken into custody and booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center. Jackson’s bond exceeds $112,000, while Denson’s bond exceeds $67,000. Authorities say additional charges are pending, and detectives believe there may be more victims connected to the suspects across the state.
“It’s possible these suspects were targeting cars and stealing credit cards across the state. But they chose the wrong county,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper. “This is an important reminder that locking your car alone may not stop a thief. Always remove valuables from your vehicle.”
