VILANO BEACH, Fla. — A home in Vilano Beach collapsed after being engulfed by flames early Tuesday morning, but all residents and firefighters escaped without injury, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. on June 16, 2026, to the 100 block of Zamora Street following reports of a residential structure fire.
When crews arrived, they found the home heavily involved in fire with neighboring residences threatened on both sides.
Firefighters immediately launched suppression efforts while conducting Vent, Enter, Search (VES) operations in areas of the structure that remained accessible.
Officials said all occupants had safely evacuated the residence before emergency crews arrived and were accounted for.
As conditions inside the home worsened, incident commanders ordered firefighters to withdraw from the structure and transition to defensive operations.
Moments after crews exited, the home collapsed.
Authorities said all firefighters had cleared the structure before the collapse occurred, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters continued battling the blaze from the exterior using hose lines and were able to prevent significant damage to nearby homes. Adjacent residences sustained only minor impacts from the fire.
The American Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The St. Augustine Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance during the response.
