JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says detectives seized 4.3 kilograms of fentanyl, a firearm and more than $60,000 in cash during a narcotics investigation that resulted in the arrests of two men accused of trafficking the deadly drug into the city.
The arrests were made on Friday, July 10, following what investigators described as a months-long investigation involving the Sheriff’s Office Major Case, Mid-Level, Street Level Narcotics and Overdose Death teams.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Alejandro Villasana flew from Chicago to Jacksonville to deliver the fentanyl to 36-year-old Javaris Lee Williams.
Detectives arrested both men and seized approximately 4.3 kilograms of fentanyl during the operation.
Investigators also recovered a firearm and more than $60,000 in cash.
Authorities estimate the amount of fentanyl seized equates to approximately 215,000 potentially lethal doses.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said both Villasana and Williams are facing multiple criminal charges.
Williams was charged with Possess Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Florida Felon and Traffic in Dangerous Fentanyl or Fentanyl Analogues. His bond was set at $201,500. He posted bail and was released on July 11th.
Villasana was charged with Traffic in Dangerous Fentanyl or Fentanyl Analogues. His bond was set at $1 million and remains in-custody at the Duval County Jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for August 3rd at the Duval County Courthouse.
The investigation remains ongoing.
