The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for Duval County as dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills, or “feels like” temperatures in the 20s, are expected overnight into January 12, 2025.
In response, the City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Preparedness Division has activated its Warming Center Contingency Plan. The plan ensures that when temperatures drop to 27 degrees or colder, the Jacksonville Warming Center will open for residents without adequate heating.
The Warming Center will be open at:
The Legends Center
5130 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32208
Hours: 9 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, to 9 a.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025.
JTA buses will provide transportation for vulnerable individuals to the Legends Center, which will be staffed and offer water on-site. Residents should bring bedding, snacks, medications, and other personal items.
Additionally, all City of Jacksonville Libraries and Community Centers will serve as warming locations during regular business hours. Cold weather shelter services are also available through local non-profits, including the City Rescue Mission, Mission House, Sulzbacher Center, and Trinity Rescue Mission.
