Traffic Stop in Leesburg Leads to Felony Drug and Ammunition Charges

On January 22, 2025, a Lake County deputy on patrol in the area of Pala Verda Avenue in Leesburg initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Steven Green, admitted he did not possess a valid driver’s license.

When questioned about illegal items in the vehicle, Green handed the deputy a large bag containing 20.5 grams of marijuana, acknowledging that he did not have a medical marijuana card. The deputy detained Green and conducted a search of his person, discovering a syringe and a clear plastic bag containing 2.72 grams of a crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle uncovered several used syringes, a 9mm ammunition round, and a makeshift smoking device. Records revealed that Green had a prior felony conviction, leading to an additional charge for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Green was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail without incident.
