On Oct. 28, 2020, officers responded to a Mansion Road home for three people shot. One of the wounded died on scene. Twenty-five minutes after that call for help, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to another home about eight miles away for a person shot. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but died shortly thereafter.
The investigation revealed two gunmen entered the Mansion Road home with two victims at gunpoint and forced them along with a third person in the home into a room while they robbed the house. During the robbery, the gunmen were on the phone with another person who was on lookout outside the home. Not long after, another victim arrived and fought one of the gunmen. During the struggle, the victim was shot and killed and one of the gunmen was also shot. The gunmen left the home. As they drove off, they shot at a woman who was inside a car at the end of the driveway.
Detectives discovered the man found shot at the second location was one of the gunmen. The other gunman was identified as Montgomery, and the third suspect was identified as the brother of the dead suspect. Their car was a rental, and officers confiscated it as evidence and sent it to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for analysis. Digital evidence — including Montgomery’s phone left at Mansion Road — confirmed Montgomery and the two other men were at the crime scene. All three are convicted felons.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Tom Mangan and Christina Stifler.
