Jacksonville Man Arrested in Midday Road Rage Shootout on Atlantic Boulevard

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested 28-year-old Tayler Strickland in connection with a road rage incident that escalated into a shootout on Atlantic Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff.

On Saturday, August 2, just before 1:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting. Investigators learned that a 25-year-old man, traveling with his mother and aunt, had nearly collided with another vehicle, leading to a confrontation.

According to the complainant, the suspect, later identified as Strickland, pulled a firearm and waved it at him. The victim drew his own firearm, and Strickland allegedly began firing. The victim returned fire before crashing his vehicle after being struck by gunfire. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Patrol officers searched for the silver Volkswagen sedan involved. Detectives and analysts from JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crime Unit and Real Time Crime Center reviewed surveillance footage and evidence, identifying the suspect vehicle and license plate.

Investigators located the Volkswagen at Strickland’s residence, noting a bullet strike to the rear passenger door and a windshield patch covering apparent damage. On August 6, Strickland turned himself in at the Police Memorial Building and was booked into the Duval County Jail.

He is charged with attempted murder and shooting deadly missiles. The other driver is not facing charges, as evidence indicates he acted in self-defense.
