Jacksonville Police detectives have arrested 44-year-old Donald Rentfrow Jr. in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred Monday night in the Mandarin area.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on November 3, officers from Jacksonville’s District 3 Patrol responded to reports of gunfire on Rustic Green Court. Upon arrival, they found 43-year-old Stephen Shahly in his garage with gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, Shahly was pronounced dead at the scene.
The JSO Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation, conducting witness interviews and reviewing video surveillance. Using evidence collected, detectives identified Rentfrow as the suspect.
Early Tuesday morning, investigators, with the support of the SWAT Team, executed a search warrant at Rentfrow’s residence. Rentfrow was taken into custody and formally arrested following an interview. He is now held in the Duval County Jail.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated it will continue working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure justice is served for Shahly’s family and friends.
No additional information regarding a motive has been released at this time.
