OCALA, Fla. — A traffic stop in Ocala led to the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and other narcotics, including what authorities said amounted to nearly 4,850 potentially deadly doses of fentanyl.
The arrest happened during the morning hours of April 17, 2026, in the 1200 block of Northeast 3rd Avenue.
According to authorities, Detective Sergeant I. Minck stopped a blue Chevy SUV for a traffic infraction and ordered the driver, identified as 52-year-old Curtis Lamar Spruce, to exit the vehicle.
Investigators said Spruce refused repeated commands and made what were described as suspicious movements inside the SUV.
Authorities said a patrol vehicle pinned in the SUV to prevent Spruce from fleeing, and a high-risk traffic stop was conducted before he was taken into custody.
During a search incident to arrest, authorities said deputies found a bag hidden in Spruce’s undergarments containing:
- 109 grams of methamphetamine
- 14 grams of cocaine
- 9.7 grams of fentanyl
- Percocet
Investigators said an additional 16.2 grams of cocaine fell from Spruce’s pants during the search.
Authorities noted that as little as 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal, meaning the amount seized could represent approximately 4,850 potentially fatal doses.
Investigators also noted the stop occurred near a church on Northeast 4th Avenue, which contributed to some of the charges filed.
Spruce, a convicted felon with prior convictions including robbery with a gun or deadly weapon, burglary, grand theft auto, narcotics offenses and fleeing law enforcement, now faces multiple charges, including:
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Trafficking cocaine
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
- Possession of a vehicle to traffic a controlled substance
- Tampering with evidence
- Possession or use of drug equipment
- Resisting without violence
The investigation remains ongoing.
