Palm Coast Man Arrested After Domestic Violence Barricade Ends With K-9 Capture

PALM COAST, Fla. — A Palm Coast man was arrested Sunday night after a domestic violence investigation escalated into a barricade situation that ended with a sheriff’s office K-9 apprehending the suspect, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 10 p.m. to a home in Palm Coast’s R Section after receiving a 911 call from a distressed victim reporting that 43-year-old Ilia Javoronkov was assaulting them.

According to investigators, the victim pleaded for help during the call, telling dispatchers, “He’s going to kill me” and “Please bring help; he’s hurting me.”

When deputies arrived, they reportedly heard yelling coming from inside the home. Authorities said Javoronkov answered the door while the victim stood behind him appearing fearful and attempting to keep distance.

Deputies separated the victim from Javoronkov and spoke with the victim outside the residence. Investigators said Javoronkov then shut the door and refused to cooperate with deputies.

According to the victim, Javoronkov allegedly threw the victim during an argument, shoved the victim into a closet, and strangled the victim while trying to access a gun safe.

The victim told deputies they felt “the blood draining from my head” during the strangulation.

Investigators said the victim also reported that Javoronkov threatened to kill them if he gained access to the firearm safe and again threatened, “If I get inside, I’m going to kill you,” during a struggle over a bedroom door.

Authorities said Javoronkov barricaded himself inside the residence and repeatedly yelled insults at deputies while refusing commands to surrender.

Master Deputy Jenkins, acting as a crisis negotiator, attempted to communicate with Javoronkov by phone and text message for approximately two and a half hours. Investigators said Javoronkov refused to cooperate and told deputies, “Come and get me,” after being informed he was under arrest.

After negotiations failed, authorities said Javoronkov moved to the back of the residence, where Titan apprehended him.

Javoronkov was transported to a medical facility, where deputies said he refused treatment and continued threatening law enforcement and hospital staff before being taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

He was charged with:

  • Domestic Violence Battery by Strangulation
  • Obstruction Without Violence
  • False Imprisonment

Officials said he is being held on a $23,500 bond.

Rick Staly said deputies attempted to peacefully de-escalate the situation for more than two hours before K-9 Titan was deployed to safely take the suspect into custody.
