ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Florida – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 61-year-old woman accused of defrauding an elderly victim while working as the victim’s caregiver.
Investigators said Raggie Canty was charged with organized fraud, use of personal information without consent, uttering a forged instrument, grand theft, and exploitation of the elderly.
According to detectives, the investigation began in March 2026 after deputies responded to a delayed theft and fraud report.
Authorities said Canty had worked as the victim’s caregiver since 2022. During that time, investigators allege she stole jewelry, used the victim’s personal identification information without permission, and opened multiple lines of credit in the victim’s name.
Detectives said Canty used a fraudulently obtained credit card to spend more than $8,000 in January 2026 at retail stores, hotels, spas, and restaurants.
Investigators believe Canty engaged in a scheme to defraud the victim and allegedly provided false information in an attempt to conceal her actions.
The sheriff’s office said detectives believe there may be additional victims connected to the investigation.
