William Tedd Sherrod, a 60-year-old registered sexual offender in Florida, has been sentenced to 32 years in prison after a jury found him guilty on 36 counts of Possession of Child Exploitation Material. The verdict was reached on May 28, 2025, following a three-hour deliberation.
Sherrod has been registered as a sexual offender since his 2006 conviction for Possessing an Image of Depicted Sexual Conduct by a Child. The recent charges stemmed from an investigation that began on April 8, 2021, when the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) assisted the Gainesville Police Department in a separate inquiry involving an individual residing with Sherrod. This collaboration led to probable cause for a search warrant of Sherrod’s residence at 10526 SW 86th Pl.
The warrant, executed the following day, authorized the search of his home, outbuildings, and vehicles for devices capable of storing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). During the search, investigators seized several digital storage devices, including a flash drive, laptops, CDs, and a cellphone. Sherrod was taken into custody at that time for violating conditions of his sex offender registration.
Subsequent forensic examination of a flash drive revealed a substantial number of illicit CSAM images. In February 2024, after the State Attorney’s Office inquired about the charges and further review, the ASO enlisted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for technical assistance when a device extraction was found to be corrupted. FDLE successfully retrieved and verified the presence of illicit CSAM on the flash drive and both laptops, leading to the charges presented in court last week.
