BRONSON, FL — A 62-year-old Bronson man is being held without bond at the Levy County Detention Facility following an intensive cyber and physical abuse investigation into the sexual exploitation of multiple children under the age of 12.
Dennis Russell Sr. was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) after detectives secured multiple victim disclosures and corroborating witness statements. He faces high-level felony charges that carry a maximum penalty of life in prison under Florida law.
Dual-Hat Task Force Specialist Leads Probe
The case was spearheaded by Detective R. Sullivan of the LCSO Criminal Investigations Division. Sullivan, a specially trained investigator, is embedded within the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and serves as a federal Task Force Officer with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), specializing in dismantling child exploitation rings.
Leveraging specialized forensic protocols, Detective Sullivan obtained detailed disclosures from multiple young victims. Investigators also tracked down and interviewed key witnesses, building a corroborated timeline of abuse that allowed the agency to secure high-level felony warrants.
Due to the nature of the allegations, Russell was hit with a multi-count indictment, including Distribution of Obscene Material to a Minor, proving that the suspect introduced explicit media to at least one child.
Held on No Bond Status
Following his arrest, Russell was booked into the county jail system under a strict No Bond designation. He is formally charged with:
- Sexual Battery Upon a Child Under 12 by an Offender 18 or Older (F.S. 794.011(2)(a))
- Two Counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation Upon a Child Under 12 by an Offender 18 or Older (F.S. 800.04(5)(b))
- Distribution of Obscene Material to a Minor (F.S. 847.0133)
Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum released a statement condemning the suspect’s actions and reinforcing his agency’s reliance on integrated state and federal task forces:
“The sexual abuse and exploitation of children are among the most heinous crimes we encounter. Protecting the children of Levy County remains a top priority for this agency, and we will continue to aggressively pursue those who prey upon our most vulnerable victims. I commend Detective R. Sullivan and the members of our Criminal Investigations Division for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment throughout this investigation.”
LCSO officials noted that because Marsy’s Law strictly protects the identities of crime victims, and given the extremely tender ages of the children involved, no further details regarding the relationship between Russell and the victims or the specific location of the abuse will be publicly disclosed.
The investigation remains active. Authorities urge anyone with additional information regarding Russell, or any suspected crimes against children in the region, to contact the Levy County Sheriff’s Office at 352-486-5111, or submit completely anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-877-349-TIPS (8477).
