JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 53-year-old man faces a life sentence in state prison after a Duval County jury found him guilty of kidnapping, raping an 89-year-old woman during a violent home invasion, and stealing her vehicle, State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced.
Lamont Don Jackson, 53, was convicted of Kidnapping, Burglary with Assault or Battery, Sexual Battery, Home Invasion Robbery, Burglary of a Structure, and Grand Theft Auto. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will formally sentence Jackson at a later date.
Home Invasion and Assault of Elderly Victim
Just before midnight on July 19, 2024, Jackson broke into the home of an 89-year-old woman while she was asleep inside. Jackson raped the victim, bound her, and rummaged through her purse to steal her wallet and car keys before fleeing the residence in her vehicle.
After Jackson fled, the victim managed to free herself and dial 911. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a hospital for treatment of her injuries and to undergo a forensic sexual assault examination. Utilizing neighborhood witness statements and surveillance video footage, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Narcotics teams located and arrested Jackson on July 21, 2024. He has been in-custody since then, not being able to pay the bond set at $2.2 million.
Forensic DNA Evidence Links Suspect to Second Assault
During the investigation, evidence processing by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) revealed the presence of a second individual’s DNA on swabs taken from the 89-year-old victim as well as on a penile swab taken from Jackson.
Detectives tracked down and interviewed the second DNA contributor, who disclosed that Jackson had sexually assaulted him while he was sleeping in a park on the same night of July 19, 2024. Further laboratory testing confirmed that DNA from both the 89-year-old female victim and the male park victim were present in Jackson’s underwear.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Khary Gaynor and Daley Pajcic.
