After a two-day trial, a Volusia County jury found Dosia Stewart guilty of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Career Criminal. The charges stem from a February 10, 2024, incident in which Stewart ambushed a victim outside a Daytona Beach home.
Stewart lured the victim outside before pulling a handgun and demanding he get on the ground. When the victim resisted, Stewart shot him multiple times. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, hip, and thigh. His leg was later amputated, and he suffered permanent injuries to his arm. Stewart fled the scene but was later identified and arrested.
State Attorney R.J. Larizza emphasized the severity of the case, stating, “The defendant is a violent career criminal who should receive a life sentence for his crimes.”
The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terwilleger and Paiton Mizelle tried the case, while the Honorable Karen Foxman presided. Stewart is scheduled for sentencing on February 26, 2025, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, with additional enhancements due to his criminal history.
