Traffic Stop in Alachua County Leads to Drug Arrest; Deputies Warn of Fentanyl-Laced Marijuana

Larry Porter was arrested on February 27, 2025, and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute following a traffic stop.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Alachua County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Porter for several traffic infractions. During the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

The search resulted in the discovery of 141 grams of suspected marijuana, packaged in various quantities for sale. Packaging materials and a digital scale were also found in the backpack containing the drugs.

The [County Name] Sheriff’s Office emphasized the dangers of street-level narcotics, stating that marijuana is often laced with fentanyl and methamphetamine.

“There is a mission here and it’s simple. No street level narcotic is safe. We must do everything possible to prevent having to tell a family member that their loved one overdosed because they thought they were ‘just smoking weed,'” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
