Two Good Samaritans are being hailed as heroes after they intervened in a violent assault on the Santa Fe River late Thursday afternoon. Sean Irion and Jason Wayne Hunter witnessed a man physically attacking his wife while they were all boating and immediately took action to help the victim.
Without hesitation, Irion and Hunter approached the couple’s boat from either side and yelled at the man to stop the assault. In a courageous move, Irion disconnected the boat’s fuel line while Hunter distracted the aggressor. Their quick thinking allowed the terrified woman to safely transfer to their vessel.
Despite the successful rescue, the situation escalated when the man, later identified as Stanley Frank Budziak of Lake City, FL, brandished a knife. Jason Hunter bravely knocked the weapon out of his hand and into the river, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
Irion and Hunter maintained their position until deputies arrived on the scene to take control. Budziak reportedly resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody for his actions. Authorities noted that Budziak was unable to be photographed during the booking process due to his continued violent and disorderly behavior.
The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office is commending Sean Irion and Jason Wayne Hunter for their extraordinary bravery and swift response. Their selfless actions are credited with making a significant difference in ensuring the safety of the victim.
